Being a Resident Assistant...

This time last year, I remember waking up at 4am to a phone call saying "Wake up, put your shoes on, and open your door."

Little did I know that this very morning, my life as a Vanguard student would completely flip. That morning, I found out I was chosen to be a Resident Assistant for Laguna Hall at Vanguard University. I was overjoyed after being so certain that I didn't get the job. Prior to being hired, I had missed my first interview that was scheduled the same day at my grandpa's memorial, and my dad was currently in an induced coma after suffering from a major heart attack that nearly took his life. All in all, I was a hot mess.
By the grace of God, however, I somehow landed a spot on a team of 6 young women who would soon become my best friends.
What a blessing.

After being kidnapped at 4am, I remember finally being able to take off the blindfolds to finally see the team of girls who I would be working with for the next year. I saw Aminee, Jessica, Cara, Paola, and Tammy. These girls have been a solid foundation to making this past school year the success that it was. We have also been so incredibly blessed to work under Chelsea, our awesome RD who is new to Vanguard, and not to mention new to the wedding planning world!

My first month as an RA was rough. You can ask my best friends Sabrina and Priscilla all about it. (They're literally the best) It was filled with the ups and downs of meeting 30 wonderful girls, combined with the mixture of my first real heartbreak. It was rather interesting.

Looking at it now, I am so glad to have been chosen to be an RA. I do believe that God has been working in my life in ways that I would have NEVER chosen for myself to go through. However, I think that's the point. I am so happy to be a Laguna Hall RA. The girls on my floor are literally my family and best friends. We share laughs, tears, and lots of arguments. They're the best and I wouldn't change it for the world.
